.....A member of the men’s soccer team has been working on a journal for the last three years detailing his mental health struggles. Hancock explained the reason the athlete decided to share his story. “He said: ‘I never knew how to share it with anyone,” Hancock said. ‘I don’t have huge social media following. Everything I see about Wisconsin sports has to do with statistics, how many goals we score. But this is the first place that I feel, because it is athlete-led, you guys understand me and will give me a safe place to amplify the story.’” Hancock noted she was inspired last summer to see UW athletes from different backgrounds and different sports involved in a unity march on campus. “We want to be a mechanism, a platform that fuels that fire and keeps that momentum going,” she said, “empowering athletes to talk about race, mental health, passions outside of sports...... ...moreBethany`s Notes: An opportunity for student athletes at UW-Madison to share their own personal stories on their own platform.
