health in recent years, UTEP women’s basketball coach Kevin Baker admits
he did not always make himself available to his players. “My first 14-15 years in the business, I ignored a lot of players that
were clinically depressed or upset in some way,” says Baker. “I should
have gotten them help. Instead of helping them, in the old days, you
pushed them out because you thought they don’t get it, they don’t want
to be here, and really it was exactly the opposite, it was the coaches
that didn’t understand. And now coaches are willing to ask the right
