Like too many, Andi Boe tore her ACL — this is how she returned: Part I


....“I remember just lying on the ground screaming,” Boe said. “As I went off the field I remember having two separate thoughts in my head. One was my pet peeve — when people go down and are crying and screaming and then come back on 10 minutes later. And I was like, OK, you are not really hurt. One part of my brain was saying, wow, I’m going to be that kid when I step back on the field and play.

“And the other part of me was like, wow, I just tore my ACL.”

Bethany`s Notes: Part one of a real story about the experiences of an ACL injury...the operation, setbacks, mental and physical challenges. I utilized the quote above to show her real self....the ideas we have in our minds about others and their experiences. Why is it a pet peeve of hers when other athletes go down crying and screaming and then come back later in the game? Do we view them as weak? Less than? Not tough enough? Do we need to change that mentality? Or perhaps as a coach we need to be more aware of how we respond to those on our team and other teams when injuries happen.
