Early specialization for athletic success leads to injuries and other issues


....“There’s pretty clear cut evidence that says that young athletes that focus on one sport, or that so-called specialization, have a higher incidence of both acute and chronic issues as far as muscular/skeletal injuries,” Austin Crow, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, said.

“The problem is when they play the same sport year-round, their body never really gets a chance to recover from that injury,” Koenig said. “It’s pretty conclusive that single-sport athletes have a lot more injuries. We see it just anecdotally.”.....

Bethany`s Notes: If specialization isn`t good for the body physically it probably does not help mentally as well. Kids need a break and potentially a change in coaches once a in a while too.
